The Sorcerers of Aegis have been persecuted and hunted by the Order of Wizards and Magi for over 4,000 years to survive they were forced to band together against their common enemy. They formed a loose underground secret society, which the called “The Society of Sorcery”, “The SS” or just “The Society”. They established safe houses, meeting places, shrines to their god Sirius. They founded and supported establishments that would cater to them and keep their secrets safe. These places became training grounds for them to practice, worship and teach each other, their children and new recruits.
The Society has always worked under the cover of darkness, secrecy and within the shadows to keep them safe and alive. The leaders of The Society always keep their features hidden, so they would not to be discovered, and thus they became known as the ‘Lords of Darkness’. The heads of The Society felt that to keep their ranks from dwindling they would need to actively search out younger sorcerers, even those who had not yet manifested the Mark of Sorcery. They formed a cabal of riders to search the lands for prospective sorcerers and bring them to safe houses across the lands for them to be tested. Those who possessed the talent were brought in and mentored in the ways of sorcery.
As the centuries passed their numbers increased, and they began to notice that certain areas, groups and families sired more children with the Mark of Sorcery than others. The Cabal then enacted a series of historical quests long and far across the known world to uncover the origins of the Mark of Sorcery.
As the Cabal’s knowledge of the mystery schools grew to rival the Great Libraries of The Order, they were soon under a new threat from The Order as assassins and spy’s had infiltrated their network. The Lords abruptly disbanded The Cabal, hid their records and returned to the shadows. Yet The Cabal is rumored to still be in existence, hiding in secret.
