The Knights of the Dragon Watch are an order of warriors created during the rule of the Great Kingdom, some 5,000 years ago, dedicated to the safety of the human realms. After the fall of the Great Kingdom the Knights almost went extinct but survived in a few of their strongholds across Athania, specifically in their homeland of the Great Dale, the holdout remnant of the Great Kingdom.
They are a highly regimented militaristic order dedicated to The Sentinel, goddess of strategy, and to keeping the peace of the land. Any war on the continent of Athania will undoubtedly have The Knights fighting the good fight. This was not always the case though. About 300 years ago, The Knights had rebuilt many of their ancient strongholds and were present in many cities and lands of Athania. As the Norther Un-Human Wars broke out the Knights were lulled into merging with a religious sect of the god of Prophecy, Sayris. The Knights benefited from the alliance and won the war. After the War the Knights conquered many lands, in the name of the Knights and the church of Sayris, that had been decimated during the war. It seemed that the Great Kingdom would reign again as they controlled many lands for many decades until they became hated throughout Athania. As their rule and power grew the other nations of the lands plotted and banded together to wage war against the Knights and the Church of Sayris. The Elves, Dwarves and other Human realms ousted the Knights from power and control of their lands during the Two-Years War.
After their fall from grace The Knights reformed under a new noble lord Ulric Von-Droma. Ulric, a Paladin of the Sentinal, was bless by the Goddess with a strange tattoo which gave him mystical powers. He was lead by his goddess to recruit from specific families who would, in time, manifest “The Mark of The Sentinel”. Over the next generation the Knights grew powerful and Ulric was elected to Chancellor of the Lords Council of The Great Dale
